Go to http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/ and click on the graphic that says "footprint" on the left side of the page. This is a demo video that explains what it does and why. You'll also need a laptop and buy a KTX-H100 Imprint kit software. This kit comes with software and a microphone, you need to adjust the system Imprint your car. Basically, what footprint do is tune the system frequency and tonal correction time to give the best sound for the acoustics of your particular vehicle.We have installed and tuned 4 of these so far and it makes a huge difference in quality of sound you get in your car. It's basically an audio processor that is near the computer is set to the audio response and a perfect listening enjoyment. The software package is only $ 30, but as I said you do not need a laptop or a computer you can set up next to your car because the footprint is adjusted through software by through a USB cable for the system footprint that is where the microphone connects well.

just installed a whole alpine setup but what about the Alpine PXA-H701 multimedia processor?

ok so i was told by crutchfield that this thing will make sound and everything be SOOOO much better with my new head unit. So i purchased it and my local audio install guy said it will not make a difference. I do not have anything fancy like fiber optics etc. But will this make a difference? More bass etc and what not?
I have 1 and it makes a big difference. It gives you eneough outputs to do an amazing surround sound set up in your car. It also makes your sound system mega customised alowing you to make it sound exactly how you want it 2. There is also digital time correction, that alows you to adjust the timing of your speaker making sure the sound from the drivers door speaker reaches you at exactly the same time as the speaker on the back passanger back door, your head unit may already have this feature but the processor is more accurate. Tricky wee thing to use tho. Im running a full alpine system with type x speakers and subs with 5 v12 amp, sounds top class. 2 subs and 3 sets of speakers wit 3 sets of mid-bass speakers and a centre speaker (full surrond sound) and the pxa-h701 controls it all.
