This box is intended for a type S Alpine 12. (or similar spec speaker) I have a type R and the air volume of this box is too small for it and the port tuning is wrong. It did not sound very good with a type R. I will give it a thumbs up for the quality construction. I wish I could give a more favorable review. I am not saying this box is bad. It was designed for a type S and I'm sure it would sound great loaded with one judging by the high build quality and specs. (EDIT 2 WEEKS LATER)The Alpine Type R recommends a 1.9 cubic ft. (ported) box. This is only 1.3. The full range of bass was not heard with my 2010 Type R. I replaced it with this... [...] More even, linear output with less power-all bass notes come through evenly. I bought this box with a pioneer Champion Series 12 inch sub woofer and boy i will tell you this thing kicks A $$. it has more than enough cubic feets of air to make the sub i have work and sound flawlessly. (1.3c) very nice quality and built really well

Put this in the back of a 01 Mustang, took some strength to get it in but looks good now. Works well, product was sturdy, and worth what I paid.

May 18, 2011 | — Current wildfire status, 05/18The Texas Forest Service has released an update on current wildfires in West Texas, including a new fire currently burning 15 miles west of Sterling City.
Current situation:
Critical fire weather conditions exist over the western third of Texas.
Texas Forest Service responded to one new large fire yesterday in Sterling County.
TFS is currently working on three major fires that have burned a total of 174,769 acres.
195 of the 254 Texas counties are reporting burn bans.
New large fires from Tuesday:
PRICE, Sterling County. 3,373 acres, 95 percent contained. The fire is burning 15 miles west of Sterling City in mesquite, grass, and brush. One home and dozens of pump jacks and tank batteries were saved. Three heavy airtankers responded from Midland.

If they are dual 4 ohm, you get a load of 1 ohm ... not a load of 2 Ohms.
If they are dual 2 ohm, then you get a load of 2 Ohms.
However, the Type RS really shine, with about 750-800W of power, unlike the 500W recommended.
For 4 double, get the BXI1608. 1600W @ 1 ohm.
Dual 2 To obtain the ZX1500. 1500W @ 2 ohms.

What type of sound are you looking for? Are you looking for loudness, sound quality, a mix of both. That will greatly influence what the overall specs of the enclosure should be.
Typically, I would recommend an enclosure that is around 2.25-3 cubic foot per sub. The tuning is highly dependent on what type of sound you are looking for.

Edit: For loud bass I would suggest something that is between 2.5 - 3 cubic foot per sub and tuned to 34-36Hz. That will give you some very good output but also be a great daily driver.
