I have a Garmin Nuvi 880. It has the Bluetooth feature. The microphone that is built in is adequate but I was looking for something better. I tried the Garmin external microphone and it was not much better than the one that is built into the unit. In my search for replacement options, I tried a few other popular microphones brands. All of them were about the same as Garmin options. Then I ordered the Clarion. A significant difference to all others I tried. Works great. Clear with minimal background noise on my Garmin Nuvi. Recommended! Note: this is a 3.5mm plug and Garmin uses 2.5mm plug. You will need to obtain a converter. I found one at Radio Shack that works well.

I am using this with my sony mex-bt3800u head unit and it makes a huge difference in the audio quality over the built in mic. I assume the noise canceling is what really makes the difference.

We installed a Nokia bluetooth hands free unit, and their microphone was terrible. I did a lot of on line searching before I settled on the Clarion, and what a remarkable difference! The combination of ability to angle it properly and the noise cancellation make it an ideal choice. No more complaints from people on the other end of a call.

Oct 29, 2008 by Eric SI just bought a new Clarion MAX685BT radio for my 03 Highlander. I am going to try and install it myself. I am wondering, will I need to purchase a installation kit, wiring harness, or antenna adapter for it? Or is it not necessary?

yes to install kit and yes to harness no to ant adater (probably... not sure on that deck) and good luck on that. Taking apart highlander dash is a PAIN IN THE ASSSSSSS!
