How important is amplifier choice?

Apr 25, 2007 by fluff_basic
I foresee a system for my car, and I am going for SQ. Up front, I plan to DLS UP6 components at the rear and a sea Lotus 10. Im wondering how the amp choice is important. Course components, they are not cheap, and I will not cut corners on the amp if it affect performance. However, it seems like the PPA has technology long enough when the preamplifier (eg DLS) were probably the same degree of refinement as brands under ... but I could be very wrong. I ask mainly because I have a Audiobahn mono amplifier that I use to consider the sub. Anyone have experience with them?Should I get exactly Amp DLS all the way around these high-end components, or they can see their full potential through Ampere more affordable as Audiobahn, etc.? Thank you for your time.
Thank you very much, that explains a lot ... I'm not going to consider Ampere bargain basement. That being said, Audiobahn Amp, I have the sub is 100db S2n, and being that its for the sub I think I'm fine with it. I'll probably take an A3 for the DLS UP6's up front. Thank you again.
Oh yes, and I have a 3 farad capacitor in addition to a yellow top Optima, and it is a brand new Audi, so I doubt I'll have problems as far as power goes. In addition, I'll run less than 1000 watts in total anyway.
You're right ... and wrong too.

On by you're probably not going to notice a ton of difference with a smaller amp pushing (this is a subject of great debate in the world of car audio ... Some say that can not say the bass frequencies while audiophiles claim quite the difference. If SQ is what you're after ... stick with quality amps).

Now, when it comes to components ... it's another football game together. Speakers for the mid to higher frequencies are where the Signal to Noise Ratio "rating on an amp come in.If you are looking for an amp for those who go with no less than 100 dB signal to noise ratio. Less than nothing and you sacrifice a remarkable amount of clarity and fullness in your musical choices. Not to mention the noise that would make its way into your signal source unit.

Subs you skimp if you have to and in May will not notice

Component speaker / midrange / tweeters-great signal to noise ratio or you will regret you cut corners

Good luck!
  • Amplifiers are the driving force of any good system. If you run top line speakers, why on earth would you not have something behind them that can push them and keep them happy.

It would be like trying to pull a train of 10 cars with a Yugo, get my point!

A good amp will give speakers the juice it needs to run them without any damage (clipping) them. You would not have any distortion, which could also damage your cones.

One thing to your right is the way technology is progressing you could go out and get some amps second rate as you might think would do the job and a few weeks later .... I burn out, because he had to work so dam hard to push your speakers he would kill himself trying.

So if your going to finish with the speaker, to follow through with the battle cry too.

Last two things: remember, your strong points, fuses and relays. And please, please have a good alternator (s) or extra batteries to give the amp the juice needs in IT or you'll be like any other vehicle you see has sounds Bumpin 'and there are dimming the lights to the rhythm of the music because you cannot vehicle system give enough juice.

Good luck with your installation !!!!!
