Device Design Day 2011: Six Questions for Liz Bacon
Feb 08, 6688 | In anticipation of Device Design Day 2011 , we've partnered with
Kicker Studio to bring you a series where
speakers from this year's conference reflect on six questions about design and their practice. D3 brings together visual, interaction and industrial designers for a multi-disciplinary conversation about the design of consumer electronics and objects with embedded technology.
Leading up to August 5th's Device Design Day in San Francisco, we'll be learning more about this year's speakers through a short series of six questions from Kicker Studio. This week we sit down with interaction designer and Porsche-racing speed demon Elizabeth Bacon. Read on to learn about quite possibly the coolest pen in the world, the thrill of motocross and why designers should always remember: Only you can make yourself happy.
Elizabeth Bacon is a practicing interaction designer with over 12 years of professional experience. She began her career at Cooper, where she got her "post-grad" education in interaction design while working across a variety of domains. She then was a "Human Factors Design Engineer" for over five years in the Cardiac Rhythm Management Division of St. Jude Medical, a Fortune 100 company. She designed multiple products around the clinical systems that handle implanted pacemakers and defibrillators, and formalized a process that blended interaction design methods with traditional human factors engineering approaches. Liz has been running her own design consultancy, Devise, for the past several years. She's also a Director Emeritus of the Interaction Design Association (IxDA). On the personal side, she loves to draw, write poetry and race cars, although not usually at the same time.

Will A cvx 12" With Kicker box at 4Ohms work with the kicker 750 amp?
Feb 08, 2976 by famousman38
ok i have a question i can get a
kicker CVX 12 "box with
Kicker focused Prewired @ 4 Ohms. My question to y'all is the
amplifier operates from 375 to 4 ohms and 750 to 2 Ohms. or how do I wire to the Editor preform for 2ohmload to the amp?
Impossible. If you need to remove the sub enclosure loaded, you will find that the sub is a sub 2 Ohm DVC with both voice coils wired in series to obtain the 4-ohm load at the terminal.
You might look into getting a different amp ... one that ranges from about 750W to 1 or 4 ohms. If you go the route of 1 ohm just ReWire both voice coils in parallel to the terminal.

Im going to build a box for 2 12" kicker l7 subwoofers, any suggestions?
Feb 03, 2007 by POD
I am going to build a box for 2-12"
kicker L7 subwoofer and was curious if anyone knew a box they would sound well in. the subs will be played rap music so a deep loud bass would be best. Any suggestions would be great. thanks.
Well, if you're putting the box in a tight place where there is no room for air to adequately travel, go with a ported enclosure. This will ease the strain on the subs.
Have a little more room? You can use a sealed enclosure. This provides a more solid bass in my opinion...This was always my choice of enclosure.
Now, if you are building one, and you want it to sound good, go with a MDF (medium density fiberboard) or HDF (high density fiberboard). First glue the pieces together, then screw them for added strength. Then just for grins, caulk the inside of the box where the pieces make any corner or edge. Get you some weatherstripping and line the edge of the sub hole...this will stop any air leaks at your sub mount.
There are so many things you can do to get a good sound...it just depends on your skill level. If you know how to fiberglass, then glass that baby up. Then put a layer of carpet on it to prevent the box from squeaking on any hard surface it touches...
Have fun...
