Pioneer announces AppRadio smartphone-connected receiver

May 25, 2011 |

Pioneer has been slowly adding iPhone app integration to its line of AVIC all-in-one receivers for the last two generations. First came PandoraLink, then Aha Radio and Motion-X GPS Drive in the latest generation. Today, Pioneer announced at an event in San Francisco that it's taking smartphone app integration to the next level with AppRadio: a standalone in-dash receiver that uses the iPhone and its apps as the primary source of for its audio and connectivity.

In a nutshell, AppRadio acts as a terminal, allowing users to interact with the apps and media stored on their smartphones, particularly Apple's iPhone 4 and iPod Touch devices. Pioneer has announced initial partnerships with four app developers: Motion-X GPS Drive, Rdio streaming music, Pandora Internet Radio, and Inrix Traffic. Users interact with these apps using AppRadio's capacitive touch screen (an industry first for an in-dash unit) via custom car -centric interfaces that are aimed at keeping the driver safe and distraction-free. For example, users can start navigation using Motion-X GPS Drive and then have the turn-by-turn directions mirrored on AppRadio's screen with spoken prompts coming through the car's speakers. Feature sets for some apps may also be culled to keep the driver from getting to focused on the touch screen--for example, station creation has been omitted from Pandora and search is disabled in Rdio.

can i install a dvd player on a pioneer avic-f700bt and still watch while im driving?

Feb 03, 2009 by Oscar G
Im planning on buying a Pioneer AVIC-F700BT and install a separate DVD player though, because it does not play DVDs, I have my old one im pretty old Indash pretty sure it will work but I just want to know if it will still play while im driving, even if someone has a good hack for it or a video would be nice thank you for help.
It does not play DVD's head so no hack is needed and is not applicable for this model. It has A / V inputs for connecting external video sources can be viewed while driving. Just do not let the cops see it while driving. They have been known to make you retire and cut the son before allowing you to roll. They will not let you disconnect simply because they know that you plug it in once you get off the road. Or they will impound your car if you do not cut son.

How can I install a Pioneer AVIC-D3X into a 2007 ram 1500 with stock stereo?

Apr 04, 2008 by afcrewchief2002
I have a 2007 Ram 1500 with stock stereo and would like to install the Pioneer AVIC-D3X stereo unit but crutchfield says it does not fit. Does anyone know of an aftermarket adaptor to make it fit?
you might need a dash kit to make it fit, and you will need a wiring harness or you could hard wire it, here's how
factory radios have extra wires that are not needed with an aftermarket install most of the time (wires that control the dimmer on the radio, speed sensitive volume)
you will need three power wires (constant, ignition, and ground), plus your speaker wires
use a test light to test your wires, usually at the radio the yellow wire is your constant, the red is your ignition, and black is always ground
to find your constant use the test light, it will be hot at all times so that your radio can remember the time, and your settings- next you need your ignition, it is only hot when the key is on or in the accessory position, to tell the radio when to come on- the ground is self explanatory
to find which wires go to what speakers all you need is a 9v battery, put the positive end to a wire and test all of the other wires to the negative side and you will hear a crackling noise from a speaker when you have the right combination
good luck
